French as a Foreign Language (FLE)

French as a Foreign Language training tools at your disposal.

A large range of options to perfect your French at Montpellier SupAgro!


Since 2018, all French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses given at Montpellier SupAgro have been attributed an FLE Quality Label.

We offer courses at different levels, from beginner to advanced. The enrollment procedures depend on each student's status - please contact us at assistance-fle@supagro.fr for more information.  We favour small group sizes (max 15 students). The campus and the classrooms are accessible to persons with reduced mobility.

Online test (free)

As part of their application, candidates must take an online French test to assess their language level. The 2-hour test is taken on a secure server.

The minimum level required varies by training programme. Test results are communicated to the admissions commission and become part of the student’s academic record.

Summer programme (optional, fees involved)

French courses in July and August!

Intensive courses (free)

30 hours over 2 weeks in early September, early October, and early January.

Objectives: to offer non-native French speaking students intensive training in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) to enable them to acquire the technical and scientific vocabulary essential for completing their course of study.

General organization: intensive courses take place 15 days before the start of the other classes.  During this period, students are trained in scientific vocabulary, and are offered courses to facilitate their integration into life in France (banks, administrative procedures, etc).

Weekly classes (free)

2 hours per week over the entire period that foreign students are at Montpellier SupAgro.

French is considered to be their Living Language 1 (LV1) and earns ECTS credits.

Objectives: to offer non-native French speaking students training in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) to enable them to acquire the best possible command of French as well as cultural knowledge necessary for their integration.

TFI® - Test de Français International (free)

Montpellier SupAgro is the approved TFI® test centre.

Taken at the close of their training programme, TFI® enables students to obtain certification of their proficiency in French that is recognized by thousands of companies and institutions around the world.


Selection of free MOOCs "Living in France"

Do you want to live or study in France? Do you want to speak in French to communicate on a daily basis and handle official formalities? Do you need to improve your French to make your daily life and administrative procedures easier?

The Alliance Française Paris Ile de France offers you the possibility to follow 3 free online courses (MOOC), each targeted at a particular level of language proficiency, to tackle, at your own pace, the themes of daily life, French culture, civic life or administrative procedures. The certificate of success of this course does not certify that you have reached the linguistic level.

  • A1 level

    This course consists of 17 sequences of 3 hours each.

    It is designed for people who are beginners in French. This course aims at objectives of A1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • A2 level

    This course consists of 18 sequences of 4 hours each.

    It is designed for people with a beginner's level in French: you have followed the MOOC "Living in France – A1 level", you have obtained A1 level, or you have the equivalent of 80 to 100 hours of French language learning. This course aims at objectives of A2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • B1 level

    This course consists of 22 sequences of 4 hours each.

    It is designed for people with an elementary level of French: you have followed the MOOC Living in France – A2 level", you have obtained the A2 level, or you have the equivalent of 180 to 200 hours of French language learning. This course aims at objectives of B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
