Joint PhD supervision

Update : 04/18/2023

The joint supervision of PhD dissertations is based on an agreement signed between Montpellier SupAgro and the international partner institution, involving reciprocity. It enables a PhD degree to be awarded in France and in the partner country.

The application for joint supervision must be made by the student, at the time of registration in the thesis program or exceptionally during the 1st year of the thesis. It may be part either of a framework agreement involving the two partner institutions accompanied by an implementing agreement, or a convention concluded specifically for the thesis in question. The joint supervision agreement must be signed by the two thesis directors, the doctoral schools or equivalent structures, and the institutions of higher education.

It includes the description of the thesis project, and specifies the conditions of implementation between the two countries, including the training modalities and composition of the defence jury. It sets down the conditions for: payment of tuition fees between the two countries, payment of social security coverage, accommodation and financial aid that the doctoral student can obtain to ensure his or her mobility.
