Objectives

The Agromanagers option contributes management training to the life-sciences engineering program. Students acquire knowledge concerning:

  • how food systems function (production, consumption, distribution,...) related to “life sciences and industries”,
  • key management disciplines and fields: corporate strategy and innovation, marketing, finance, management control, human resources and team management, supply chain management, production and quality management, project management, risk management, international development strategies.

Students acquire management skills that enable them to fulfil diverse functions as project managers or supervisors in production or service companies in the private, cooperative or public sectors. The individual and group work included in the program and the internship within a company strengthen their project management, team leadership and interpersonal skills.

    After completing the core management curriculum (marketing, finance, strategic management and innovation in business, human resources management) which also includes a 'food systems' module, the Agromanagers option offers students the possibility to choose different modules according to their career plans:

    • In marketing
      Understand and choose different types of marketing studies (qualitative, quantitative) to carry out
      Know how to use panels and analyse their results
      Be able to undertake a marketing diagnosis of a product or brand on the market, formulate and implement a marketing strategy and marketing mix
    • In finance
      Discover financial theories, rules and tools of financial markets
      Acquire financial management techniques
      Be familiar with cost calculation and control methods, cost-benefit management models
      Develop budgets and financial statements, at strategic and operational levels
    • In industrial agro-performance and risks
      Understand and operate production systems
      Improve industrial performance
      Acquire management tools to control risks, manage resources sustainably and adopt responsible communication

    More transversal instruction also is proposed in the fields of:

    • Supply chain management
      Evaluate the performance of supply chains
      Understand and coordinate inter-functional and inter-organizational relationships
      Use sales planning systems, manage flows, manage inventory
    • International economics and strategy
      Analyse macroeconomic data and relate this to the geo-strategies of multinational companies
      Conduct internationalisation diagnoses

    Internships

    The internship within a company begins in mid-March for a period of 6 months (compulsory), and is followed by the writing of a report and its presentation at the end of September. It provides students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired and to equip themselves to approach the labour market under optimal conditions. Here are some examples of internships offered to students that cover the entire range of managerial skills in a company:

      BLEDINA: How to adapt a global corporate strategy to the specific DROM-COM market? The case of growing up milk at Blédina
      NUTRIKEO Consulting: The drivers of consumer reassurance in the field of nutrition: a focus on communication
      HÉLÈNE WINES: Development of a network of Ambassadors and Community Managers
      LACTALIS Roquefort: How do multinational companies manage their regional brands?
    •  In supply chain management/purchasing
      POMONA/TerreAzur: How can a full-service wholesaler (in fruit & vegetables and seafood) play a role in the development and optimization of local sales channels?
    • Financial engineering/management
      F. INICIATIVAS: How to improve the financing of innovation and R & D in SMEs in the agri-food and agriculture sector?
      CREDIT AGRICOLE Sud Rhône Alpes: Comparison of the financial performance of a cooperative and a private company in the dairy sector in France.
      LABEYRIE: The localization strategy of salmon activities of the Labeyrie Fine Foods group. Study of the production costs and drivers of the strategy within the Labeyrie Fine Foods group.
    •  In industrial performance/Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
      LUTTI SAS: Implementation of the SMED method in a candy packaging workshop
      CARREFOUR Group: Carrefour’s CSR method applied to the responsible fisheries and livestock project and its contribution to the group's strategy
      HEINEKEN: Deployment of the Total Productive Management methodology for the people development pillar
  • Calendar

    • End April: deadline for submission of applications

  • Admission

    The 3rd year option is open, after review by the admissions committee, to students who have validated the M1 level (first year of a master's program) and come from:

    • an international partner institution in the context of academic mobility (earning credits)
    • a school of agriculture under the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food (See Ecole des groupes Ingénieurs) or the Ministry of Higher Education for Research and Innovation
    • or a French institution with which Montpellier SupAgro has signed an agreement

    Application forms may be obtained from the educational directorate of your institution.

    Students who have not validated the 2nd year (M1) of the Montpellier SupAgro Agricultural Engineer course are not awarded a diploma at the end of the 3rd year of the training program.

     Graduates of this option obtain positions in very promising sectors within multinational companies or in SMEs/medium-sized enterprises: agri-food production and distribution companies, service /consulting companies, banks, cosmetology or biotechnology laboratories, international trade, and catering.

    • In management/finance: financial management assistant, financial analyst, business manager, business developer, internal auditor, consultant/business consultant, management controller, innovation manager...
    • In industrial performance & risks: production manager, logistics manager, risk manager, lean management coordinator, supply chain manager, quality manager, project manager, CSR coordinator...
