Objective

The programme introduces students to tools and methods for the management of water systems and irrigation schemes and for collaborative resource planning. It is intended for students interested in applying social sciences (principally economics, law, sociology, geography, and management sciences) to analyze water issues.

    • French water legislation
    • irrigation engineering
    • assessment and performance of water management systems
    • sociological aspects of water management
    • economic evaluation of public policies
    •  economic instruments to manage water demand
    • financial management of development projects
    • water governance systems
    • environmental impact assessment methods
    • groundwater management

    The application procedure covers initial training and duel degree programmes (Master, Engineering School). It also concerns the establishments co-accrediting the M.Sc Water Sciences (University of Montpellier, Montpellier SupAgro, AgroParisTech).

    Graduates are prepared for a range of positions, including: 

    • research officers/team leaders/project managers/advisors/environmental engineers
    • watershed coordinators

    • water development and management plan, regional or national park agents
    •  water-environment task officer in international organizations
    • environment officers in private firms

    Some may also continue into a PhD programme and then pursue a career as a researcher or research engineer specializing in social sciences and the environment.
