UMR IATE Plant agro-resources processing platform

From the behavior of cereal grains to agrifood products and other agro-resources to food and bio-based products


The plant agro-resources processing platform is a transversal tool providing staff and equipment for research and training activities, of the joint research unit IATE (INRA, CIRAD, University of Montpellier, Montpellier SupAgro) and Montpellier SupAgro students. It includes pilot equipment and instrumented prototypes. The equipment available allows batch and continuous work, and can handle quantities ranging from grams to kilograms.

The platform processes raw plant material of various origins (cereals, lignocellulosic material) destined to be transformed into food, energy, biomaterials or biomolecules (green chemistry), thus making it possible to:

  • understand, study and optimize the dry fractionation and structuring processes of plant agro-resources
  • develop new products for food or non-food applications
  • control the energy consumption of equipment

Organization based on technological and thematic units

The platform brings together traditional equipment for processing cereals, innovative technologies, and prototypes developed in-house. It is organized into different technological units equipped to characterize the products generated (powders and divided solids, food products or biomaterials):

  • dry fractionation of cereals
  • dry biorefinery of lignocellulosic biomass
  • structuration of cereal product
  • shaping and packaging processes for biomaterials
  • characterization of products generated

Located in Montpellier on Gaillarde campus, the IATE plant agro-resources processing platform is also an innovative facility used for training Montpellier SupAgro students.
